By Calla Salinger. The first puzzler is the old TV out front, showing fuzzy images of a small Asian woman performing acrobatic massage techniques. Any New Yorker with a properly calibrated sense of self-preservation then asks themselves: Can this possibly be legit?
The basement level of the gigantic three-story space houses the spacious, open room of baths, which consist of hot, cold, saltwater and multi-jet pools alongside steam and hot-stone rooms. And did we mention the private red wine baths? We learned a few things during our visit to this TriBeCa hot spot: Bikini-clad models are drawn to thermal baths like gazelles to watering holes; self-assured businessmen love to discuss their work—loudly; and a coed bathhouse is not the place for a massage. Our session got off to a promising start with a dip in a warm, salty pool lit by flickering candles. But things headed south when our therapist fetched us for our massage just minutes into our soak. She escorted us to a treatment table surrounded by flimsy curtains, where she proceeded to drill into our tightest knots.

But really, is there a better way to cope than locking up your smartphone, slipping into a plush robe, and lounging in a scented steam room while waiting for lavish doting at the hands of a spa therapist? We think not.
