Summer Adventures at Camp McCumber. Recently, the Active NorCal team and friends of course decided to take a little camping trip up to Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Here are some of our findings for the benefit of would-be Whiskeytown campers:.
Lake based recreational opportunities are Whiskeytown? Whiskeytown Lake provides 36 miles of shoreline and 3, surface acres of water, and is excellent for most water-related activities including swimming, boating, water skiing, fishing and scuba diving. Personal Watercraft are prohibited on Whiskeytown lake, but are still allowed on Shasta and Trinity Lakes.

Permits are needed for any activity within the park boundaries and they must be purchased on an annual or weekly basis. There are no daily permits issued, so at least a weekly pass must be acquired upon arrival.

On a beautiful weekend in June my hubby Randy and I decided to spend a few nights camping at the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area with my brother Cody and his family who live nearby in Redding. This 42, acre park is just eight miles west of Redding and boasts 4 waterfalls, several creeks and the stunning Whiskeytown Lake making it a favorite for fishermen from near and far. While browsing the website to make our reservations I noticed that the Saturday of our visit just happened to be one of the dates that a Ranger-led Star Party with the Shasta Astonomy Club was scheduled at Oak Bottom Marina.
